First off it was Phoenix, which has traditionally been a mess since Nascar racing 2003. I watched the replay, and although some of the 14 yellows may have been avoidable, I honestly did not see anyone wrecking intentionally.

I think this whole thing has gotten way out of hand if guys are talking about leaving. There is no need for anyone to do that. We will very rarely have a race like Dover when we do not have any yellows. Real races (doesn't matter what class, car, division ) has accidents, it's part of racing. I can go to any track on a Saturday night and ask some ole codger who will wreck before the feature starts and he can tell me.

The admins are doing a great job week in and week out. Do I always like the call, No, however, I have chosen by signing up and paying for this league to let them be the officials, and make the calls, and honor the calls they make. Be sure to read the words   I have chosen, no one forced me to race here, no one made me sign up, and certainly no one is making me stay.

Can we make things better, yeah maybe. Can drivers make better choices about staying out, changing two tires, etc.....yeah maybe, but wouldn't that kind of take the fun out of it?

I was mad as hell Monday night going from 3rd to 23rd with about 1500 feet left in the race, but you know what, it was my decision to try and pass Angelo, if I had choose to not go low and try, I would have ended up 3rd. What other game/sim can you think of that can bring up this kind of emotion? When we get good finish we feel great, we get interviewed, and it's a ton of fun, when we wreck, we get mad, were not happy, what other computer game can bring this type of emotion and excitement?

I'm not saying no one should complain, or bring things up that can make things better........I don't think there is anyone in this league, or at least on Monday nights, that wrecks people intentionally. I do believe there are some guys that have not been doing this that long and would benefit from getting with some guys that have, and maybe working with them  a little. And when I say work them, I am talking about race craft.....not learning how to drive. When to pass, when not to pass, when to let a guy go, when to race them, etc.....I do believe that is where the problem lies.....not with any one individual.

I know I will probably get bashed for this post, but it is what I believe. I really like the format laid out here on Mondays, I am not fast enough nor do I have the time to try and make the Pro series on IRacing, I was fortunate enough to get into the pro series once, and it is a huge time endeavor, I just don't have that luxury anymore. So this is my main race of the week, and I actually care about what goes on in it. Let the bashing begin :)

I'm very happy with how this race turned out.  I could barely put 3 laps together in practice and I thought it was going to be a long night. But we had some good long runs there. Lots of give and take.  I tried racing the track and not so much the drivers and it paid off. Congrats to Chad on an awesome finish and breaking Dwayne's monotony.

#621 When Not to take 2 or 4 tires?

Posted by RJ Williams on 14 March 2013 - 03:19 PM

I would say the main reason that people take 2 tires in this league is the precieved notion that they will hold onto their track position. There are times I would say it would be appropriate to take 2.  Maybe right on the cusp of needing to take 4?  It's youre strategy to play.

The problem comes in at when as Wyatt said, those who are off pace decide to take none/2 tires and have NO IDEA how the car is going to react.  Or be so SCARED of how the car is going to react they hold up the field.  Wyatt explained what they need to know perfectly, and as he said they don't take others into consideration.  It all comes down to a lack of knowledge/practice in what you need to do in certain situations with the car and how the car is going to respond.

#618 When Not to take 2 or 4 tires?

I'd like to here what others think about this...... I think a lot of our wrecks are from 2 tire changes which result in a ill handling race car which means harder to control and a greater chance to wreck if u been running 2oth for the the first 70 laps and you have 20 green flag laps on your tires u come in and take 2 tires and most of the of the field take 4, now u are the leader.  What makes u think u can run with the front guy on 2 tires when u were already slower to begin with .......what do u guys think i'm not saying its bad and i'm not trying to start anything but i just want to know if i should start taking 2 tires and if it will make a difference.  Most of the wrecks I see are from guys that are taking 2 tires and they spin tires on the restart or just spin out or guys with 4 tires are just so much faster and run them over with no where to go.

I rarely take 2 tires. I do always test 2 tires in prac tho. I will run 10 race trim laps, come in and pit, fuel car and take 2 tires, then go out and see how the car feels. 99% of the time, car is loose due to less grip on the left rear which is your main drive tire center off. I think a lot of people don't understand that you can manipulate the feel of the car with fuel. Now if you take no fuel, 4 tires, car should be tighter, you take no fuel, 2 tires, care will be a lil tighter then at a start of a normal full fuel load and 4 fresh tires. Like I said, I rarely take 2 tires, but sometimes I do if I know I can get the fuel and tire balance correctly. Phoenix in the b car, I ran 20th most the race due to needing to fix damage, but took 2 tires for track position with no fuel for the last 30 laps of the race, and it resulted in me being able to drive the car harder, control the car and get a top 10 out of it. I just think a lot of it comes down to drivers not understanding how the weight transfers on the car through out the corners, and don't practice different tire and fuel scenerio's before hand to see how the car would handle. 2 tires are great if you got stuck in the back due to pitting or race incident or something, only if you know how the car will handle. Its not smart for a driver to take 2 tires if they been running 20th on back and are way off the past...again to me it comes down to smart judgement calls on the driver...not only thinking of themselves, but there fellow racers around them.

Michael Gray...3 cautions in 2 weeks. After what Eric Arnold did at Charlotte I have no idea why he's even racing. There's a reason these same people are talked about every week....

I get it. Phoenix is challenging. New car, which actually requires some skill to drive...that's a change. But I am sorry, that wasn't the main cause of the issues tonight.  I agree with the actual point Wyatt is getting at here. I am not pointing my fingers at any drivers, but you know it's bad when we are saying over teamspeak "great, I got -------- behind me" so we know we have to let them go, because if we don't we are gonna be the next victim...or trying to pass certain people who can't drive a straight line if it were on a rail on a drag strip. Then say a prayer when you try and sure enough, they hit you.

RSR Full Throttle Cup Series. SHOULD be the best of the best, cream of the crop, etc. we are gonna have some bad races, granted. But, it could be minimized by addressing drivers who repeatedly cause wrecks...
